SIGETA Volans II 70/400 AZ is the second iteration of the popular portable telescope from the SIGETA brand, now enhanced with a smartphone adapter as well as Moon and Solar System planet maps. This is a lightweight and compact achromatic refractor of entry level, specially designed for children. Ideal as a first telescope or spotting scope. At the same time, this model may also interest adult users looking for an easy-to-use instrument for portable astronomical or terrestrial observations. The 70 mm aperture combined with a short 400 mm focal length provides good light-gathering power, allowing detailed observations of the Moon — its craters, maria, and mountain ranges. You can also see discs of bright planets such as Jupiter, Mars, and Venus, observe Saturn's rings, and track bright comets. Under favorable visibility conditions, some deep space objects are also accessible, such as the Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, Pleiades star cluster, as well as bright stars of the Big Dipper constellation. All lenses of the achromatic objective have anti-reflective coating in pale violet tones, which reduces glare and improves image contrast.

Thanks to the included smartphone adapter, you can capture what you see through the telescope using your phone's camera. Simply attach it to the eyepiece using the adapter, and you can photograph or record videos of favorite objects to later share with friends and family.

The telescope comes with two eyepieces: H 20 mm and H 6 mm, providing base magnifications of 20x and 66x respectively. To expand optical capabilities, a Barlow lens is included that doubles the focal length, increasing magnification to 40x and 132x. For comfortable observation of objects located high above the horizon (at zenith), a diagonal mirror is provided, which additionally creates an upright but horizontally mirror-reversed image. The erecting lens provides a completely upright image, making the telescope convenient for terrestrial observations as well. Additionally, it allows increasing base magnifications to 30x and 99x.

The SIGETA Volans II 70/400 AZ telescope is equipped with a rack-and-pinion focuser with standard 1.25" barrel diameter, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of eyepieces and accessories. For quick object targeting, an optical 5x24 finder is used — compact but sufficiently effective for detecting bright night sky objects. The optical tube is mounted on a lightweight azimuth mount with control handle, which in turn is fixed to a compact tabletop tripod. Attachment is made using a standard 1/4" photo screw and special mechanism.
