SIGETA StarQuest 80/720 Alt-AZ is an achromatic refractor on an alt-azimuth mount that combines simplicity and versatility when observing the Moon, planets, and bright deep space objects. The 80 mm aperture provides sufficient light-gathering power for clear display of basic planetary details, lunar surface relief, as well as the most accessible nebulae and star clusters. The lightweight and compact construction combined with intuitive control makes this model an excellent choice for beginners, as well as a convenient portable telescope for field observations.
The telescope features two-element achromatic optics with multi-layer anti-reflective coating. The 720 mm focal length at F/9 focal ratio provides a balance between magnification and image contrast. The resolution of 1.45 arc seconds allows resolving double stars, while the limiting stellar magnitude of 11.6 provides access to a significant number of celestial objects.
This model is suitable for observing Solar System planets and detailed study of the lunar surface, allows viewing double and multiple star systems, as well as bright deep space objects — nebulae and star clusters. Thanks to its stable mount and ability to produce erect images, the model can also be used for terrestrial observations.
The SIGETA StarQuest 80/720 Alt-AZ telescope comes with two standard 1.25" (31.7 mm) eyepieces: Kellner 25 mm for low magnification and wide field of view (29x — optimal for finding objects and observing large clusters) and Plössl 10 mm for medium magnifications (72x — a versatile magnification for most astronomical objects). The 3x Barlow lens extends the telescope's focal length, providing additional magnifications of 87x and 216x for more detailed planetary observations and resolving double stars. The 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser ensures smooth and precise focusing and allows the use of a wide selection of additional eyepieces and accessories. The 90° diagonal mirror enhances viewing comfort for objects located high above the horizon.
An important component of the telescope's convenience is the alt-azimuth mount with slow-motion controls on both axes, which provide precise pointing and smooth tracking of celestial objects. For quick initial targeting, a finder with collimator reticle is used.
